After more than 30 years of growth, this Cranbrook side yard was ready for a fresh start. Overgrown shrubs and trees were cleared for a complete renovation, and the existing paving stones were lifted, regraded, and re-laid to create easier access from the front yard to the back.

The large grade change became the centrepiece. A two-stream pondless water feature cascades down the slope, flanked by an artificial turf area designed for yoga and meditation. The homeowner’s own bird bath was incorporated into the stream, while brown shale and round river rock ground cover tie the space together.

With a focus on birds, butterflies, bees, and pet-friendly plants, the bright, colourful palette draws visitors all season long. Ornamental fencing surrounds the entire retreat, accessed through a custom arched arbor, and the refreshed front entry now simplifies maintenance while showcasing a striking striated boulder.
